BACKGROUND
PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA ADARSHA MAHAVIDYALAYA, TULUNGIA was established ambitiously at Tulungia in the district of Bongaigaon under the co-venture of the Central Government and the Government of Assam with the financial assistance from centrally sponsored scheme - Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The institution was named after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, a great thinker and philosopher responsible for the ultimate unity of our country. The main motto behind establishment of this college is to provide quality and affordable higher education accessible equally to all sections of the society. The government established the college as model higher educational institution in the field of commerce. The first batch of students were successfully enrolled from the academic year 20172018. After years of success and quality delivery in the field of commerce, the Government of Assam in association with Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) keeping view of the public demand, decided to begin higher education in the field of science in this institution with high hopes of scientific upliftment and propagation of scientific knowledge in the region. The science stream was finally inaugurated and put into action on 01st November 2021 by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Education Minister, Govt. of Assam.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Botany began its noble journey as it was officially established and inaugurated for active functioning by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Education Minister, Govt. of Assam on 01st November, 2021 with Mrs. Chetana Hasnu as the current and founding head of the department. The department is committed to quality teaching in Biology (Botany) for Higher Secondary students. The Department also offers honours / major (HC), Regular/General (RC) and Elective (HG) courses in Botany under Gauhati University. It also offers courses on skill enhancement (SEC) papers to students of other departments under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The department is dedicated to excellence in teaching with high hopes and ambitions to propagate knowledge on plant sciences among the masses. The first honours batch began from the academic year 2021-22. At present, there are three (3) sanctioned faculty members in the department. The department has a well – maintained departmental garden with various medicinal, RET and economically important plants. The Departmental library is equipped with collections of books for the students. The department has one (1) spacious laboratory with various facilities and apparatus for experiments on classical and modern botany. The Department has an active membership with the Science Club, PDUAM, Tulungia (under Assam Science Society) for organizing various events and also maintains an annual departmental wall magazine.
OUR VISION
The department was launched with a clear vision of achieving excellence in dissemination of knowledge in plant sciences to develop awareness, interest in the subject among the masses and ultimately build valuable human resource with expertise in plant sciences. Keeping this in mind, we aim to provide a strong foundation on classical and modern aspects of Botany among the students to make them equipped for higher studies, research and competitive exams.

• To connect the students with various aspects of Botany through interactive practical classes. • To improve the theoretical understanding among the students by organizing field visits, visits to research laboratories and educational tours.
• To establish useful collaborations with well-established eminent institutes for the betterment of the students.
• To focus on improving employability skills corresponding to plant sciences among the students.
• To nurture and improve research interest among the students to address various modern day challenges in plant sciences.
